Cyanotypes, 2020-ongoing

I started this project while sheltering in my house from the Covid-19 crisis. Throughout the day, I make cyanotype images using the shadows of my houseplants to map the movement of light. This sundial-esque series resulted from my ongoing consideration of life in the Anthropocene. As rewilding and renaturalization efforts are beginning to take hold, it is occurring to me that one of the most climate sensitive acts that I can take is to produce work which allows me and hopefully my viewers to attune to the surrounding environment and learn from how it has adapted. These images trace the patterns of solar energy in my home from the perspective of the plants and are arranged into a grid as a type of portrait of that day. I am also producing large scale pieces that map at times up to eight days of interaction with the sun, time and flora.
