Tree Watch

4k film, 2020-ongoing, work in process

Tree Watch is a film and social practice project using immersive moving images to sensorially connect audiences with forest ecologies and researchers in the Americas.

This footage highlights how trees are intertwined in our ecologies, enacting roles such as parent, migrant, nest, host, witness, indicator and timekeeper. In the edit, I use formal analysis and make visual correlations to foreground these relationships, using scale shifts, pattern, and composition similarities. This work is grounded in research, but the result is a meditative, sensorial experience to allow audiences to look deeply and have positive motivation to connect with trees.

When screened, conservation representatives from local organizations will outline volunteer tree planting initiatives so viewers can tangibly support environmental health.
